OFFSHORE TENDER HITS WIND TURBINE

Apr 2020: High-speed offshore tender NJORD FORSETI allided with the basement of a wind turbine at Borkum Rifgrund wind farm, North Sea.

The Jersey Maritime Administration determined that the incident occurred because “the Master, who had the conduct of the vessel was distracted from this primary role”.  It was possible he was distracted by adjusting settings on his VHF.

A proactive alarm (like that provided by Guardian:protect) may have alerted the Master that the vessel was on a collision course.
