Ship collides with platform – USD225m damage

Oct 2020: In the early hours of October 17, the crude oil tanker Atina was either anchored or in the process of anchoring when it drifted towards the Cox Oil Platform 58-B.  Despite being clearly lit, the tanker struck the corner of the platform.

Platform personnel were evacuated immediately, resulting in significant operational losses in addition to repair costs.

Cox has filed a claim for USD225 million in damages.

It’s possible the crew of the Tina did not realize they were drifting and lost situational awareness.  Guardian:protect may have prevented the collision by sending proactive automated alerts to the vessel’s AIS system when it detected the vessel was on a collision course.
